Arabica thrives in the eastern highlands near the borders with Rwanda, Uganda, and Burundi, particularly around Kivu (North and South Kivu) and Ituri, where the high elevations (1,400–2,000 m) and moderate climate produce beans with bright acidity and complex fruity notes. Robusta cultivated in the western lowlands, especially around Équateur, Bas-Uélé, and Tshopo provinces. DRC coffee, notably the “Kivu Arabica,” is recognized for its rich body, winey acidity, and floral sweetness, resembling neighboring Rwandan and Burundian profiles.
