The coffee industry is the nation's most important export and a vital lifeline for rural families. A significant portion of the crop is the rare "Timor Hybrid" (or Híbrido de Timor), a natural cross between Arabica and Robusta plants. This variety is prized worldwide not for its cup quality but for its natural genetic resistance to coffee leaf rust, making it a crucial contributor to global coffee disease research and plant breeding.
