BUKOBA( NEAR LAKE VICTORIA)
The Bukoba region, located near Lake Victoria in northwestern Tanzania, is one of the country’s oldest coffee-producing areas. The region’s humid tropical climate, moderate altitude (typically 1,100–1,500 meters), and deep, fertile soils provide suitable conditions for coffee cultivation. Unlike Tanzania’s highland regions that focus on Arabica, Bukoba primarily produces Robusta coffee, grown mostly by smallholder farmers on small family plots. The proximity to Lake Victoria helps maintain stable temperatures and moisture levels, ideal for Robusta growth. Bukoba coffees are known for their full body, low acidity, and earthy, nutty flavors with hints of dark chocolate. The harvest season runs roughly from April to June. As the center of Tanzania’s Robusta production, Bukoba plays an important role in the country’s coffee industry, supplying beans for local consumption and regional export while supporting thousands of farming households in the Lake Zone.
