WESTERN PROVINCE

WESTERN PROVINCE The Western Province is Rwanda’s most important and renowned coffee-growing region, stretching along the shores of Lake Kivu and the Congo–Nile Divide. The area’s combination of high altitude (1,500–2,000 meters), fertile volcanic soils, and humid tropical climate creates exceptional conditions for producing high-quality Arabica coffee, primarily of the Bourbon variety. The western province includes; Nyamasheke – One of Rwanda’s top-producing districts, known for rich, full-bodied coffees with bright acidity, fruity sweetness, and floral notes, Karongi – Produces coffees with citrus, honey, and berry flavours, often with a creamy texture, Rutsiro – Characterized by high-elevation farms and balanced flavour profiles with sweet and winey undertones, Rusizi – Located near the southern tip of Lake Kivu, known for smooth, complex coffees with a sweet red fruit character.
