ANDHRA PRADESH AND ODISHA
Andhra Pradesh and Odisha are emerging but relatively minor coffee-producing states in India, with cultivation concentrated in smaller, scattered areas compared to the major southern coffee regions. In these states, coffee is primarily grown at lower elevations, which favour the cultivation of Robusta, a variety more tolerant of heat and humidity than Arabica. The Robusta beans produced here are typically strong, full-bodied, and slightly bitter, with higher caffeine content, making them well-suited for instant coffee, espresso blends, and commercial-grade production.
Although the overall output is modest, coffee from Andhra Pradesh and Odisha contributes meaningfully to India’s domestic coffee consumption and supports regional commercial markets. Many farms in these areas are smallholder operations, often integrating coffee with other crops or shade trees to maintain soil fertility and ecological balance. While these regions have not yet gained prominence in the specialty coffee sector, ongoing efforts in modern cultivation techniques, improved post-harvest processing, and cooperative initiatives are gradually enhancing bean quality and consistency.
In summary, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha play a supportive yet strategic role in India’s coffee industry, providing Robusta beans that complement the country’s high-altitude Arabica and contribute to the overall diversity and stability of Indian coffee production
