Ibb, located in central-western Yemen, is one of the country’s greenest and most temperate coffee-growing regions. Sitting between 1,400 and 2,000 meters, it stands in contrast to Yemen’s drier northern highlands, benefiting from higher rainfall, dense vegetation, and more shade trees—conditions that support healthier coffee plants and slower, more even cherry maturation. Smallholder farmers cultivate traditional Yemeni landraces on terraced slopes, often intercropped within diverse agro forestry systems that help conserve moisture and maintain soil fertility.
Coffees from Ibb are known for their sweet, approachable profiles. In the cup they tend to be fruit-forward with soft, balanced acidity, displaying notes of caramel, dried or tropical fruit, and gentle floral. This combination of sweetness, aromatic depth, and smooth structure makes Ibb coffees some of the most accessible and consumer-friendly in Yemen. As post-harvest practices improve and more farmers engage with specialty buyers, Ibb continues to gain recognition for producing aromatic, high-quality lots shaped by its unique humid highland climate.
